This fantastic outfit from Austin Texas cite some great influences that will have you biting at the bit to take a listen to their music, those influences are the likes of The Jam, Elvis Costello, Superchunk and The Who to name a few.  Do they equal their influences?  They certainly do.  Smashing out tunes full of hooks and melodies and winning audiences over wherever they go, this debut EP provides a great insight of what we can expect from this band in the future and as if the music wasn't enough, this EP comes on opaque, baby blue 10" vinyl.......what more could you possible want?

The Zags from Portland follow up the release of their brilliant debut single, "It's Over" (also a free download) with the equally infectious "Red Eyed Dawn."  This short, sharp shock of pure power pop is just what the doctor ordered.  Jangly chiming guitars, harmonies and well crafted lyrics, this really is a great single and it leaves the listener begging for more, which I hope this brilliant 4 piece will soon bestow upon us?

Mixing 50's and 60's garage Bryan Howell offers up something that sounds very familiar but at the same time something very new and refreshing too.
With influences ranging from The Clash to Elvis and The Knack to The Strokes, you just know that Bryan is onto something good with his music and this ep, which has been well received by critics and fans alike, you can rest assured that we will be be hearing great things from Bryan in the future.
One thing that had me hooked almost immediately with the track "Why Oh Why" was the nod and a wink to the great Buddy Holly in the vocal delivery, brilliant!

With yet another tasty slice of fuzzy lo-fi garage rock, Ballard offer up the "Monkey Business" EP for your musical delight.

For this outing Darren Riley is joined by none other than Cotton Mather and Farrah drummer, Dana Myzer who compliments Darren's work perfectly.

Be sure to check out Ballards back catologue, there are some fantastic, rough and ready and bloody catch tunes to be had there, but for now, download the "Monkey Business" EP for FREE and play loud!

Vegas With Randolph - Rings Around The Sun.

"Rings Around The Sun" is the third long player from this Washington quintet and like the previous  albums this one is an absolute marvel to behold for lovers of Power Pop.
Like the bands second album "Above The Blue" and the first self titled album, this little nugget is chock full of crafty hooks, licks, melodies, harmonies and the bands lyrics are second to none, this album finds the band at the top of their game.

Whilst their contemporaries maybe holding the spotlight, they had better keep a close eye behind them, because VWR are snapping at their heels with this album.

The album contains 14 tracks of pure Power Pop and whilst I sometimes think, personally, that 10 tracks is the perfect quantity for an album,, on arrival at track 14, I can't help wishing that there were a couple more to follow.  That said, I am more than content with this album and over the moon with this band.

I am sure that I will get great mileage from this album, at the very least, 435,000 miles....which is the approximate circumference of the sun and with the added rings, well, who knows?

Stream and buy the album in one of the many packages available here: Bandcamp
(If you don't have the first two albums, you can, and should, go for the package including the whole lot and more!)
